Robin Auld
http://www.robinauld.co.za One of South Africa's unsung superstars now based in Leicestershire. Robin Auld is a rootspop guitarist and singer who incorporates African, blues, Celtic, country, folk and pop into his music. He has released 13 albums, had over ten radio hits in South Africa and won national awards. He performs solo acoustic and with a 3 piece line-up, and apart from many tours of his own has opened for acts like Lloyd Cole, Osibisa, Vin Garbutt, Jackson Browne, Angelique Kidjo, Michelle Shocked and SA icon Johnny Clegg. He’s performed in New York, London and Nashville, tours SA regularly and has performed at events like Womad and the Grahamstown National Arts Festival. Born to Ayrshire Scots parents in Lusaka, Zambia, Robin's childhood was spent alternating between Southern Africa and Scotland, a state of constant movement that was to continue into his later musical search. The beach and surfing were the main elements of his early years in Cape Town, and he considered becoming a pro surfer at one stage. His early musical career was based more on his abilities as a guitarist than as a singer. He learned to play the guitar by listening to Hendrix, Ry Cooder and Neil Young, and wrote songs influenced by western singer/songwriters. Later on he absorbed influences from the various guitarists of Southern Africa such as Louis Mhlanga and Philip Tabane, resulting in the contemporary mix of roots and pop that characterizes his sound today. Through his various band line-ups he has played and collaborated with many of SA’s top musicians over the years, also doing two hander shows with other writers like alternative Afrikaans act Valiant Swart and Zimbabwean guitar giant Louis Mhlanga. He started his own label, Free Lunch, in 1999, now on its 5th release. He also published the South African beat novel "Tight Lines", and has just published "Kelp", a collection of poems and short stories. A more album orientated history continues on the audio page, where preview MP3's of various albums can be downloaded. "A genuine and unaffected flowing together of cultural strands..and, unlike a lot of singer-songwriters you can, hell you should, play this loud." Unpeeled UK. "Sunkissed and generous of melody". Whisperin'and hollerin' Ireland. "Meltdown, ambient and sublime". Tasty UK. "Damn fine tunes, go buy it." Iafrica Entertainment, SA. Dlugokecki http://www.myspace.com/dlugokecki Ben Dlugokecki (pronounced- Der-loo-go-ken-ski) - An extraordinarily talented 25 year old prolific singer/songwriter based in Southampton, England.
