Hi there, how nice of you.  I am not thinking of moving there, although at this stage not sure where. Thinking of Mallorca or France, how long ago did you move and how is it going. Its a big step... and on my own, so doubly difficult. Would love to hear how your relocation has gone.
Regards, Cecelle

Hi Cecelle.  Pleased to meet you here too.  Nice to find somone else who is also interested in moving to Mallorca.  I am just not getting the information that I need from the Spanish regarding Visas.  Hope to see some more of you around here until we maybe meet one day in Palma or Alcudia.

Hi,
We are considering moving to the Algarve but have been struggling to find information on jobs in Algarve. It is a bit scary to make this decision without having all of this information sorted out before the time. Can you please help me with this at all? Did you have work in Algarve before you decided to move there? Are there any particularly good recruiting agents or anyone that could help me with first finding a job, i am in the IT Industry, and am currently working on SAP.
Are you enjoying life in the Algarve? Do you find that this was the right move? I'm currently in South Africa and am definately looking for a crime free countryCry. We have always gone on holidays to algarve (vilamoura), and have loved it. But am considering making it a living destination and not just for get aways or holidays.

Thanks for your help, will really appreciate any feedback. Smile

Dear heavens, forgot I even went on this site - a whole lot has happened since...  my ideas changed and instead of Spain, Mallorca or  France
I AM MOVING TO PORTUGAL!!

For any of you looking to go there I would suggest you join www.expatportugal.com
Any questions you may post will be answered and there are loads of things already discussed and answers given. Its great, very, very helpful people from all over Portugal advising.
I move in February 2010. VERY affordable - much cheaper then South Africa as far as things like insurance, rates and taxes, electricity, water, food ( lovely markets in villages on certain days), and on and on.... work is a problem unless fluent in Portuguese or you are setting up something yourself. Good luck and see you on "expatportugal".  Cecelle.

Well I have just relocated to the Algarve in Dec 09. Still adapting ... but it is exciting being here, although we have experienced quite a bit of rain and cold lately.

Hi, for all those who are thinking of moving to Portugal, whether it be the Algarve, Lisbon or north.  Another good site to refer to is AngloInfo. As mentioned by Cecelle, if you are not fluent in the language it will prove difficult to find work.  However, the government provide language course at schools for a nominal charge, certificates are issued (which help in finding work) and they also reimburse you.  These course are especially beneficial for people who want to become citizens etc.

Hi, I really want to move to Portugal. I completely fell in love with it when I first went there, i'm thinking of Porto, I'd love to live on the coast, but if i have to i'm willing to live in Lisbon. I'm 18 and want to go there for a while, indefinitely, but i don't know how to do that in terms of work. I'm into music and fashion, i wonder if you have any advice for me??
I'm looking to move there within the next 3 months, d'you think that's possible?

Please HELP!

I would not suggest moving there as the work situation is not easy.  Start by learning the language fluently once you can speak really well, try another short visit and try and
find out if there are any people hiring. Dont even think of moving there if you are not able
to speak Portuguese as nobody will hire you if you cannot speak the language.

Good luck .
